The first three months with your baby are full of exciting changes! From learning to lift their head to giving you their first real smile, your little one is growing and discovering the world every day.
While every baby develops at their own pace, here are some key milestones you can expect during this special time.
Motor Skills: Getting Stronger Every Day
By 2 months, your baby may start lifting their head and chest during tummy time. By 3 months, they’ll push up on their elbows, open and close their hands, and start grasping toys. These movements help build the strength needed for rolling and sitting in the months ahead!
How to Help:
✔ Encourage tummy time several times a day (even for just a few minutes!).
✔ Offer safe, lightweight toys for them to grasp.
✔ Give them plenty of time on the floor to stretch and move.
Vision & Social Development: Smiling & Engaging

Your baby’s eyesight is improving! They are learning to focus on faces and track moving objects. By 6-8 weeks, you’ll likely see their first social smile—a heart-melting moment! By 3 months, they’ll recognize familiar faces, follow you with their eyes, and react with excitement when you talk to them.
How to Help:
✔ Make lots of eye contact and smile—your baby is watching you closely!
✔ Use high-contrast toys or books to help strengthen their vision.
✔ Talk and sing to them throughout the day to encourage engagement.
Communication & Sleep Patterns: Learning to ‘Talk’
At this stage, crying is still your baby’s main way of communicating, but by 2 months, they start cooing and making sweet vowel sounds like “ahh” and “ooh.” By 3 months, they may try to mimic your voice and experiment with different noises!
How to Help:
✔ Respond to their coos—have “conversations” with them!
✔ Narrate your day so they hear different sounds and words.
✔ Read simple books with rhythmic, repetitive language.
Sleep Update:
Some babies start consolidating nighttime sleep by 3 months, but it’s still normal for them to wake up during the night. Short naps and frequent feedings are expected!
